Riot Games has a lot planned for 2022. The League of Legends developer is already talking about its goals for the 2022 pre-season, so what can we expect in Season 12? We covered the Drake, Item and Rune Changes for you!

League of Legends has changed a lot in the last two years. "Unleashing the Elements" brought us the various Drakes with their Souls, and Mythic Forge has turned the entire item store upside down. However, Riot Games has confirmed that such a serious change is not planned for now. Instead, they want to further expand and improve the "existing game systems". Are we going to get more Drakes, Riot?

The "Unleashing the Elements" change that brought us Drakes affecting terrain at the time had the background of wanting and needing players to be more challenged and make more flexible decisions by always having different terrain. Also, each game should be more distinctive and unique because of the Drakes.

Riot Games wants to pick up exactly where it left off:

  • Creating new terrain features that contribute to unique matches and alter how the game plays out after the map transforms
  • Expanding the thematic possibilities of what empowers a dragon and how that empowers champions on the Rift

Riot Games has more changes planned, which they will share with us as the season progresses.

What Changes With The Items in Season 12?

Through the Mythical Forge, Riot Games wanted to give us the ability to make individual decisions and adapt our item build to the game situation. But we all know how well this worked in the game... Everyone just built the meta item on their champ and almost nothing was ever adapted to a game situation.

While we continue to think this is the right goal, we've heard your feedback that having to make a strategic decision about every item in your inventory isn’t always desired or possible, especially in high tension games.

We think it's great that Riot Games listens to our feedback and implements it directly in the 2022 pre-season.

That' s what Riot Games aims to change:

  • More Mythic options for support champs
  • Improved Legendary item options for mages, assassins, and tanks

So there will probably be more items, but many of them will only work well for certain champions. Maybe not every Auto-Attack ADC will have a Kraken Slayer in Season 12.

Anathema's Chains and Hullbreaker have already given top laners and supporters a bit more variation, now it's time to supply the other lanes with items Riot!

What Changes With The Runes in Season 12?

Here, Riot Games has analyzed how often which runes are played and has come to the conclusion that there is room for improvement. The inspiration tree in particular was a closed book for many players. It was okay on Sylas, but other champs couldn't do anything with it.

Most obviously, we feel the Inspiration tree’s identity has been fairly unclear, and we’d like to broaden its keystone use cases.

Here's what to expect in the preseason:

  • Reworked Inspiration keystones
  • Secondary rune balance adjustments

That's all Riot Games has told us so far about the changes for 2022 and the associated pre-season. There will certainly be a lot more planned for Season 12 that is still being kept from us, but at first glance it all sounds very reasonable.
